Basics of DevOps
Meaning Of DevOps
DevOps generally means a set of steps that enables the procedures amongst IT Teams and Software Development so that the software can be built, tested and released faster and more reliably than before.
The idea of DevOps was basically to build and maintain a culture of cooperation and collaboration between the teams that earlier used to function in silence. The benefits that DevOps have provided include an increase in trust, easy and fast solutions to critical problems, better management of unplanned work and faster and smoother software releases.
The word ‘DevOps’ has been formed by combining the two words- ‘Development’ and ‘IT Operations'.
The bottom line of DevOps is that it is A Culture, A Movement and A Philosophy.
It’s like a strong relationship between development and operations that majorly focuses on the change in mindset, better cooperation, and integration. The aim of DevOps is to help the development and operations team to be more efficient and quick in delivering high values to the businesses and the ultimate customers.
HISTORY OF DevOps
The movement started somewhere between 2007 and 2008 because at that time the development team and the operations team expressed their feeling about how the industry was at an incurable level of mismanagement in the functionalities.
The movement was against the traditional model of software development. The traditional model called for those who deploy the code to be functionally and organizationally be apart from those who write the code.
From the very starting IT and Operation professionals used to have separate objectives, separate leaders, departments, buildings or floors, etc. In short, everything was different and often competitive which always resulted in silenced teams that were always concerned with their own work and departments and there were ultimately unhappy and unsatisfied customers.
DevOps is a culture, methodology, and philosophy which cannot be developed overnight or within a few days amongst the people. It is not magic that will happen overnight.
By understanding the true meaning of DevOps you can make small and incremental changes that will embark a new journey for your team.
